Meaning 'little barn'.....Skyber Byghan cottage St Agnes is a cosy holiday cottage that has just undergone a complete refurbishment giving it a boutique yet beachy feel. The cottage is situated in the quiet and tranquil village of Mithian surrounded by beautiful countryside yet is only 1½ miles from the north coast at St Agnes and 7 miles from the City of Truro. Reputed to be one of the oldest villages in Cornwall, Mithian (Cornish: Mydhyen) is a picturesque village, full of character and charm where each building has its own individual story to tell. The village is served by The Miners Arms, a 16th century pub that has had many varied uses over the years including a smugglers lair - the pub still has the original smuggling tunnel running under the road to the Old Manor House opposite. Other buildings in the village are heavily linked to the areas mining heritage, such as the Rose-in-Vale Hotel which is originally thought to have been built as a winter home by Captain John Oates, the owner of the Wheal Leisure Copper mine in nearby Perranporth. Mithian with its stunning countryside is the perfect setting for a romantic break or a family holiday. It is also a walkers heaven being perfectly situated for exploring the coastal paths, the captivating history and the beautiful nearby beaches of Trevaunance Cove and Trevellas Porth at St Agnes, Chapel Porth, and Perranporth. |
